| In 1962 the film "How the West
Was Won" was released. A portion of the filming took place in
Cave-in-Rock, Illinois. Part of that filming was on
Jack Lewis' land known as
Battery Rock. Specifically, the scene where the character of Jimmy
Stewart is introduced. The photos were taken over several days of
shooting by Jack Lewis and his
wife Doris. Charles P. Lewis,
Jack's Great, Great Grandfather, is buried at Battery Rock in a small family
cemetery called Browns Cemetery. Jack Lewis eventually sold the land
to the federal government. It is now a National Park. |
